Senex Recruitment, specialists in science, engineering, and manufacturing recruitment, are working with a UKAS-accredited testing laboratory in West Sussex to recruit a Test Technician / Test Engineer.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a small, highly technical laboratory environment delivering mechanical, materials, and environmental testing services to a wide range of clients.
Role Overview
As a Test Technician, you will carry out hands-on mechanical and materials testing, supporting both standard and bespoke projects. You will ensure accuracy, traceability, and compliance with ISO 17025 standards.
This role suits candidates from engineering, manufacturing, testing, or laboratory backgrounds, including those with practical experience or formal qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical & Materials Testing
- Perform testing such as tensile, compression, impact, hardness, adhesive shear, and creep testing
- Prepare test samples, fixtures, and equipment
- Accurately record, analyse, and document results
- Support test data reporting and validation processes
Bespoke Testing & Engineering Support
- Assist with design, modification, and setup of test rigs
- Support custom and client-specific testing projects
- Solve technical challenges using practical engineering approaches
- Adapt to evolving project priorities
Laboratory Quality & Compliance
- Work to ISO 17025 / UKAS standards
- Maintain clear documentation, logs, and records
- Ensure a safe, organised, and efficient laboratory environment
Skills & Experience
- Hands-on experience in testing, engineering, manufacturing, quality control, or laboratory environments or a graduate / further education (min A’Levels) entry level.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills
- Flexible, adaptable, and proactive approach
- Comfortable working in a small, agile technical team
- Full UK driving licence (essential due to rural location)
Qualifications (Any of the following)
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or similar
- Or HND/HNC (min A’level) in Engineering, Science or Manufacturing
- Engineering or manufacturing apprenticeship
- Or relevant hands-on technical experience
Desirable Experience
- Mechanical or materials testing
- Environmental or product testing
- UKAS or ISO 17025 laboratory environments
- Test rigs, fixtures, or bespoke testing setups
Candidates with microbiology or environmental laboratory experience may also be of interest for rapidly upcoming roles, get an early application in.
