Senex Recruitment is supporting a successful manufacturing organisation seeking a Laboratory Technician to join its quality and technical team in Sevenoaks, Kent.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for somebody with experience in laboratory testing, quality control, scientific analysis or manufacturing environments who enjoys a varied role combining practical laboratory work, technical administration and product quality activities.
Working within a quality-focused manufacturing environment, you’ll contribute to activities aligned with recognised industry standards and best practices promoted by organisations such as the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
Full training will be provided on the techniques used at this niche business, making this an excellent opportunity for both experienced laboratory professionals and candidates looking to develop their technical career in quality assurance, testing, compliance and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Testing & Analysis
- Conduct laboratory testing on raw materials, production samples and finished products.
- Verify materials and products meet required specifications and performance standards.
- Record, analyse and report laboratory test results accurately.
- Support testing activities undertaken in accordance with recognised quality and laboratory standards.
Quality Assurance Support
- Assist in maintaining quality standards across manufacturing operations.
- Support investigations into non-conformances and product-related enquiries.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and corrective actions.
- Work within quality systems reflecting industry best-practice principles
Technical Documentation & Records
- Maintain laboratory records, quality documentation and technical files.
- Manage testing reports, certificates and compliance documentation.
- Ensure documentation is accurate, traceable and properly controlled.
- Support audit preparation and record management activities.
Sample & Data Management
- Organise, catalogue and retain material samples.
- Maintain testing databases and product records.
- Support traceability requirements across quality processes.
- Ensure samples and data are stored and maintained correctly.
Laboratory Operations
- Assist with equipment checks and routine calibration activities.
- Maintain laboratory housekeeping and organisation.
- Support safe laboratory procedures and compliance requirements.
- Follow safe working practices aligned with guidance such as the COSHH.
Continuous Improvement
- Assist with process reviews and quality improvement projects.
- Support compliance, environmental and health & safety objectives.
- Contribute to initiatives that improve efficiency, quality and product performance.
Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum of an A-Level or equivalent qualification in a science-related subject.
- Ideal for graduates in Chemistry or similar scientific subject
- Experience in laboratory testing, manufacturing, quality control or technical environments would be welcome but not essential with good academics
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to follow documented procedures and testing methods.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- IT proficiency including Microsoft Office applications.
- A proactive, methodical and problem-solving approach.
Desirable Experience
- Manufacturing, construction materials, coatings, chemicals or related industries.
- Quality Management Systems and continuous improvement practices.
- Experience working within a laboratory environment.
- Documentation control and compliance processes.
- COSHH awareness and safe handling of materials.
- Knowledge of standards and best practices associated with organisations such as British Standards Institution (BSI) or the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).
