Research the recruitment company online and call the consultants
Look for transparency, professional communication, and a clear online presence such as a strong LinkedIn profile with a good number of follower and content such as Senex Recruitment's. Check google reviews and trust pilot to see what other people are saying. Still have doubts, call the consultancy and ask to speak to the recruiter in person always enquire about their sector experience, who they have successfully worked with and what candidate support they can offer. If you’re happy to make your job search known, it’s worth asking colleagues or people in your field whether they’ve worked with the recruiter before or if they can recommend one.
An honest recruiter won’t ask a candidate to pay fees and will provide clear job role details and guidance, demonstrating integrity and a genuine interest in your job search. Additionally they will listens to your goals, match you to suitable roles, have ideas to optimise your opportunities such as discussing proactive work they can do on your behalf, gives honest feedback, and supports you through the application process.
Watch out for vague job descriptions (although do remember there has to be some client confidentially so don't expect company names the first time you speak), high-pressure tactics, or requests for unnecessary personal info (ID check, Right to work in the UK and Qualifications is the limit - there is no reason to give financial or banking details, although at offer stage you will often need to give your address).
Your new employer will need information in order to process payroll and for HR reasons such as security and health checks (if required), however this will be managed by their HR team.
